A seam ripper is a handy tool used in sewing and clothing repairs.

A seam ripper consists of a handle and a kind of forked end. Between the teeth of the fork, there is a sharp edge that acts as a blade. One side of the fork is longer than the other. The longer side is meant to slide under individual stitches, allowing the threads to slide over the blade and be cut. The other tooth of the fork is shorter and has a small safety ball at the end. When undoing a long seam, the short fork with the ball is positioned underneath, efficiently unpicking the seam without damaging the fabric.
